Why This Site Exists
California has 58 county jail systems as well as a separate state prison network. A person released from a county jail may leave its live roster and require a sheriff’s release record or superior-court docket. A state prisoner is searched through CDCR’s current-custody CIRIS tool, but a completed release or discharge may require the Identification Unit, CDCR records, parole records, county PRCS records, or the sentencing court. Federal BOP and ICE custody have their own locators. This site serves as the statewide routing layer among those systems. It does not pretend that one search covers them all.
